PRISMA HELPS WATER QUALITY: TRASIMENO LAKE AND ITS FEATURES SEEN FROM THE ITALIAN SATELLITE

The #PRISMA Satellite is still under the spotlight: after it was lunched on March 2019 from French Guyana, with OHB Italia as Prime Contractor, it is still collecting a lot of interesting results.

In this image of Trasimeno lake some typical water features can be noticed. The predominant greenish colour throughout the lake is due to the presence of phytoplankton, the lighter streaks well visible inside the water, especially in the west area of the lake, highlight the presence of suspended solids and sediments resuspension due to winds. The southern part of the lake, below Polvese island, the largest one of the Trasimeno lake, has the typical darker colour due to the presence of submerged and sub-emergent macrophytes.

PRISMA is therefore actively involved in the waters’ Earth verification, an essential activity in the process of ‘healing’ our beloved Planet in view of the environmental Agenda 2030.
