The eruption of the Cumbre Vieja volcano on the Canary Island of La Palma was captured by the hyperspectral Eye of PRISMA on the 9th and 15th of October 2021. Lava flow was monitored through the analysis of bright yellow-orange pixels. The clouds appear whitish in the image, while the plume is dark brown. The eruption had devastating impacts, with lava flows that have destroyed over a thousand buildings and properties.
Another top-performance of the PRISMA Satellite, developed by #OHBItalia for #ASI – Agenzia Spaziale Italiana, in monitoring what happens on our Planet and in studying solutions to prevent future natural disasters and to rescue people.
